Offshore Wind Jobs Guide
We recently released an Offshore Wind Jobs Guide to share what we know about job types, training and skills, so locals can start planning ahead for a career in this exciting industry.
Offshore wind is set to be a big employer in Gippsland, offering a range of jobs for people from all walks of life.
The guide features stories from people who made the switch to offshore wind from administration, hospitality, oil and gas, mining, engineering and military roles.
It brings together local and international advice, thanks to TAFE Gippsland, Federation University Australia, Victorian Trades Hall Council, Victorian Skills Authority, Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation, EnergyAustralia Yallourn, Offshore and Specialist Ships Australia, and Atlas Professionals.
Star of the South is expected to create up to 2,000 Victorian jobs over the project’s 30-year life, including up to 760 Gippsland-based construction jobs and 200 ongoing jobs.

Meet our Fed Cadet
‘Fed Cadet’ Jacob joined our team earlier this year, after we partnered with Federation University to create opportunities for students to gain hands on industry experience.
Jacob's a Latrobe Valley local studying a Bachelor of Electrical and Information Engineering at Federation University.
As a Fed Cadet, he's able to combine his studies with real-world experience on Star of the South.
Working as part of our team, he's so far been involved in industry and community events, industry development planning and reporting.
Jacob loves living in Gippsland, being close to both the beaches and the city while still living a country lifestyle.
“I feel so privileged to be part of a project that is so exciting and important, and to learn about all the opportunities for my local community to get involved,” he told us.
It's great to have you on the team Jacob!
Community information sessions – what we heard
This month we held four community information sessions and a webinar to share a project update, hear from you and answer questions.
It was great to get out around Gippsland.
Thanks to the 150 people who got involved, it was an absolute pleasure talking with you.
Here's the top 5 topics we heard about.
Location - Where the project is located, why there and not somewhere else.
Jobs and supply - Interest in offshore wind jobs, training and skills and opportunities for local businesses to supply the project.
Environment - Possible environmental impacts and how these are being assessed and managed, as well as environmental benefits the project will bring.
Fishing - How offshore wind and fishing can work together.
Community benefit - Interest in how the project could benefit and support local communities.

Offshore wind ‘steels’ the show
Together with Industry Capability Network (ICN) Victoria and the Australian Steel Institute, we got together with local steel suppliers and fabricators on 10 November in the Latrobe Valley to talk about opportunities in offshore wind.
Steel components large and small are needed for an offshore wind farm - from towers through to rails, ladders, platforms and more.
We were thrilled to have Bladt Industries join us all the way from Denmark to share their experience working with local suppliers in other markets and outline their pre-qualification process and requirements.
It was great to meet local suppliers and start a conversation about what's possible. We can't wait to see this local capability at work on Star of the South in the future.
Charity golf day success
Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Yarram on a successful charity golf day last weekend, raising over $10,000 for Centenary House and local charities.
It was great to be involved in bringing the community together to have fun, play golf and raise funds for charity.
